Emma Nicosia

Emma Nicosia (she/her) is a fifth-year doctoral candidate in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Minnesota. Her research employs qualitative methods to understand how Christian hegemony and antisemitism impact educational experiences. She is currently working on her dissertation, an exploration of the lived experiences of Jewish social studies teachers as they navigate teaching at public schools in the Midwest, and will be presenting initial findings from it at the National Council for Social Studies College and University Faculty Assembly in Chicago IL in early December. She is also working on projects related to the impact of teaching preservice teachers about Jewishness and antisemitism using Jewish children’s literature. Emma is passionate about shedding light on the experiences of Jewish people in educational settings as a way to elevate Jewish counterstories and knowledge, and reduce antisemitism.
